Black Diamond Heritage Centre

This is a volunteer managed museum at the Bulli Railway Station in the beautiful heritage precinct of Bulli. Museum staff with a wealth of local knowledge will guide you through the collection of original Bulli Railway fittings, the life of the building and the Blinkco collection.

Bulli replaced the original township of Bulli at Slackey Flat when the railway station was built. Some of the residents of Bulli Township were from Sherbrooke, a village now flooded by the Cataract Dam on the Limestone Plain. Two of these residents donated their household collection to the Black Diamond Centre - the Blinkco Collection - a significant intact collection of beautiful and fascinating items belonging to two spinster women who first lived in a converted chapel in High Street.

The centre has a collection of maps and objects relating to local mining life and the Bulli Mine which once operated on the escarpment – the first source of coal in the Illawarra transported along High Street and loaded onto a pier at Sandon Point.
A memorial service is held each year on 23 March for the 82 men and boys who died in the 1887 mine disaster at the Anglican Church - Park Street in Bulli.

The centre has plenty of parking and a life size train in the open grounds in front of the museum. The railway is famous in Wollongong. In 1956 Queen Elizabeth alighted onto the train for her return trip to Sydney at this station.
The original plan to drive the Queen and her entourage up Bulli Pass was changed because of fears the car would not make it up the Pass.
